Paul Giovanopoulos was born in Kastoria, Greece, and came to the United States in 1954. He studied at New York University and the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he also worked as an teacher (1969), before moving on the the Parsons School of Design (1970-1973). Among his awards are the Gold Medal of the Society of Illustrators (1961), the John Armstrong Chaloner Foundation fellowship (1964-65).
